Sitesurfer Publishing
Search engine marketing, search engine optimization, Web design, development, Internet hosting, email
At least once a week, and just this morning in fact, a worried and confused Sitesurfer client contacts us with questions concerning some email or postal mail communication they have received from a company named the Domain Registry of America (DROA), in which the client is warned about a pending domain renewal that may lapse if the client does not renew soon. And the wording in this communication is often such that it misleads the client into thinking that their domains are currently registered with DROA, or that their renewal must take place through DROA. Also they often state that the renewal must take place soon or the rights of ownership the client has in the domain will be jeopardized. In no uncertain terms, these communications are often scams, or at the very least, based on deceptive marketing practices. The Sitesurfer team would appreciate if our clients immediatly report to us these practices by DROA, and if so inclined, report these activities to the Federal Trade Commission or your local Consumer Protection group.
For further information, you may want to review the following consumer protection article that the FTC released in 2003 concerning DROA's deceptive practices, " Court Bars Canadian Company from Misleading Consumers in Marketing of Internet Domain Name Services ."
